On a journey south Ananthalvan entered Āṇḍāl’s temple at Srivilliputtur and, inside the tank known to have been used by her for her bath, appeared to search for something. Asked what he was searching for, he answered that he was looking for the sacred turmeric, if any remaining, after being used by Andal. The episode is mentioned in the Tiruppavai Nālāyirappaṭi commentary by Tirunārāyaṇapuram Āy.

His devotion to Andal was so complete that it blinded him to the fact that no turmeric used by her could survive four thousand years after her life. Ananthalvan is considered an incarnation of Ādiśeṣa. Ādiśeṣa bears Mother Earth on his hood, and Andal is Bhūmi-pirāṭṭi. No wonder he was deeply attached to her. He composed the Godā Catuślokī singing her praise.
