What he wrote, and what is sung for him

A history of the Hill, four verses for the Acharya, four for Andal — and the taniyans, dasashloki, and kattiyam still recited in his name.

1937 TTD cover of Venkatachala Itihasamala with the image of Srinivasa.

Seven stabakas · Sanskrit

Śrī Veṅkaṭācala Itihāsamālā

The garland of historical tales of the Hill of Venkata. Not a chronicle from origins to the writer’s day, but a record of the settlement of the shrine in the century of Ramanuja (c. 1050–1150): the Śaiva–Vaiṣṇava contest, the identity of the deity and of Svāmi Puṣkariṇī, and the arrangements ordered through Yādava Rāja. Edited for the TTD by S. Krishnaswami Aiyangar in 1937 from a rare Telugu edition.

Walk the seven stabakas
Ramanuja and Ananthalvan in bronze.

Four verses + phala · Sanskrit

Rāmānuja Catuślokī

Four verses of victory on Ramanuja — one for each of the places dear to him: Srirangam, Tirumala, Kanchi, and Melkote — and a phala-śloka. Śrī Tirumalai Anantārya Svāmi anugṛhītā. The full hymn is on this page and on Stotras.

Opening of the Śrībhāṣya

Ramanuja named the Lord as Ananthalvan served Him

The Acharya began the Śrībhāṣya with a free Sanskrit of Nammāḻvār’s address Alarmēlmangai urai mārba — the Lord whose chest is the dwelling of Śrī. That name, Brahmaṇi Śrīnīvāse, is the theology of the Hill Ananthalvan kept in flowers.

Akhila-bhuvana-janma-sthema-bhaṅgādi-līle vinata-vividha-bhūta-vrāta-rakṣaika-dīkṣe śruti-śirasi vidīpte brahmaṇi śrīnivāse bhavatu mama parasmin śemuṣī bhakti-rūpā

May my intellect, in the form of bhakti, rest in that Supreme — Srinivasa, the Brahman radiant at the crown of the Vedas, whose play is the birth, stay, and dissolution of all worlds, whose one vow is the protection of every surrendered being.

Śrībhāṣya, opening verse
